Anyone have fire worms?

Does anyone on here know if any fire worms in their aquariums? Not like the small bristleworms but the larger species.

Oh wow! well i guess i wasn't being very descriptive. like these i believe they're called bearded fire worms

Bearded fireworms are much different than your normal bristleworms/fireworms. They are aggressive and have been known to eat just about everything in aquariums including coral. I would reccomend you get it out ASAP if one if in your tank unless you have a FOWLR with large, fast and aggressive fish or you just don't care about it killing anything. I do think one of these guys would be awesome in a tank just for it, same thing with mantis shrimp.

Oh i dint have them bit i want one for its own seperate tank, i find them fascinating and am looking for eunice worms and polyclad flatworms as well

Probably about 8". Moved him to this quarantine tank. And like everything I try and quarantine, it died after a week. Lol

Neat tidbit regarding hermodice and peroxide. Not that these animals don't have a niche in the reef tank, but some want them gone due to infestation or whatever. I personally don't care for them in pico reefs

It so happens that hermodice worms and cousins along with lysmata shrimp have some kind of metabolic intolerance even to diluted peroxide such that a light run affecting really not much else will kill all of them.

Then you get to deal with die off, but it's a handy way to clear tanks of them when needed. If anyone can pull some and post incremental peroxide addition measured up to lethality it would be fair science. The trend was noted in thousands of peroxide threads as a repeating detail.

A voracious natural predator for these types is the hardy little boxer crab l tessellata

Once they see them in tank, they pull them out of holes like a jack rabbit by the ears.

Before trying anything in- tank be sure a search on googs 'peroxide in the reef tank' so you can review some of the bigger threads on it to see how things fared before any work inside a display tank

Generally no, dosing peroxide at the rate of one mil per ten gallons a few times a week didn't show losses on those example threads

Needing peroxide for fireworm invasions is ultra rare, I don't think anyone used it for that so far
