I do once in awhile. I found out that what you pay at a sushi place is not so bad after all! And now I want sushi tonight!
Re your getting your ingredients, but we make sushi once a week to once every two weeks. And what we pay for fish alone is equivalent to a single roll at a sushi restaurant. Find your self a Asian grocery store. We buy 25# bags of rice between 20-30 bucks I think. The last one lasted almost a year some I don't remember. And the nori is usually 5-8$ depending on brand for 10 sheets. Salmon cost around 6$ a fillet and tunas about 9-10$. Each fillet makes 4-5 rolls

What a coinkadink! I just happen to be fanning my rice right now!

I cheat at sushi.. rolling I have Never gotten down. But it took it down from a once in a great while, exploded kitchen to it's a back up dinner plan like spaghetti here!

I make sushi in a cup.... http://www.skinnytaste.com/spicy-california-shrimp-stack/
and then change up the recipe but not method for spicy tuna, crab etc etc

Tastes just as good, not the same experience but you know.....

Hubby said he understands why I enjoy making sushi, as it's in tune with my "meticulous nature"..... Hmmmmm..... I don't think that was a compliment.

Sounds like he was calling you OCD to me..... :/ ;) dont get mad at him

I cant make sushi rolls cause I live life as barely controlled chaos, i can cook the hell outta stuffs....but it isnt going to be french plate pretty and the kitchen will be a mess.

I'm a spicy tuna roll or maybe salmon roll. Spicy tuna salad is great to. My favorite bit on the roll is the Toasted sesame seeds,it gives it that something special. Hate shrimp don't care for shashimi

I have friends over once in a while for make your own sushi parties. I make the sushi rice and then buy a selection of fish, veggies, and other ingredients. I also make the sauces (ie spicy mayo and fish sauce). Then everyone can select the ingredients they want and roll their own sushi. Luckily in California, we have super fresh seafood, so I have a market I can go to to get sushi/sashimi grade fish. Luckily the best seafood market is also an Asian specialty food store, so I can pick up all the other ingredients there too :)

If you lived closer you'd be a great addition! You have some awesome skills! Your rolls look like works of art :) I can roll a decent sushi roll, but I'm not nearly that much of a pro. However, I think my sushi rice is pretty delicious. This reminds me that its been quite a while since I've hosted a make your own sushi party. I think its about time for another one. Actually...I just want to eat sushi now! Haha!
