Anyone Tech Savvy?

Im not a tech guy, and couldnt find the info on google, so heres the issue: my Lady's brother had a brick thrown through his car window last night in front of his parent's house, and although they have surveillance installed, it appears to be a low quality system. You can see the car pull up in the vid, get out and chuck the brick, but theres no way its going to stick in court because of the pixelation and low res. Ill try to upload the vid shortly. Any way to somehow transfer the video to an alternate computer system that could dial in the resolution? Thanks for any help. These issues have been ongoing for awhile now and it would be nice to nail this guy.

Sad to say No you can't add pixels to pixels. But the police if they do the work can at times see the pattern of a plate depending on the resolution.

Doesn't matter what computer you do it on, the only thing that's matters is the software, and it ain't cheap. Never got into video editing so I can't recommend anything but if you can identify the car with seething like a dent or scratch you should be golden. I'm about to get a new car myself and am looking to set up a camera system to keep an eye out for a problematic neighbor that did some serious damage to my current car. Only problem I have is that the cameras are fairly old and I think will only record a live feed to VHS, I'm hoping to find a way to hook it up to my computer

+1 to what D said, that was the only good software I could think of, the ones the big city cops use. And even then the enhanced quality isn't much better

Thanks. So basically, if the resolution is bad on the camera/software on the actual camera that recorded the event, then theres no way to improve upon the file on any other device? I have the video (Jpeg I believe) and just tried to download, but no dice!

You can purchase video cards that have (possible) the connections needed for computer hookup or converter boxes are available also (radio shack) to get a idea. Three cameras are ideal for security
1) main door
2) back door
3) on car with proper angel
When setting up have overlapping view points (like led lighting come shape overlapping) this will allow multiple angles from just a few cameras. Types of camera are needed also with the ability view at night (not thermal) because plates on cars by law have to have lights on the back plates, your camera if good came (possibly) pick up the plate.

Old saying in editing:

Bad in/bad out.

The software will not help much even if you grab a frame from the clip if it is pixeled. If the police have matching software and it isn't too too bad, sometimes it will match a mug, but even that is difficult. You can always get an ip camera with motion detection with a decent sized sensor and install software to capture it, but it will have to be a good camera (not the cheapest, but it works) and if you can run a couple tb of drive space, and Mount it somewhere hidden but sheltered.
