I've been using this salt for more than 2 years and it always mixed clean and clear. Now the latest bucket has the brown sludge in the mixing pail like IO does. I'd reference a batch number except it is blank and I just realised the 5 or 6 empty buckets I have are also blank which is less than helpful.

I read so many stories like these with “high end” salts having sludge , plaster, bad quality ect. Why don’t people use regular IO? I’ve never had or heard of issues and it’s cheap. Sigh don’t understand

I used IO for many years and always had the sludge but I also sometimes let it mix for days before I would use it. I also never had any problems. I tried the Red Sea and I like how fast it goes clear and how fast they want you to use it - .5 to 4 hours. It's still dissolving fast but now leaves the sludge in the bucket. I'm on my 4th or 5th water change and no problems otherwise.

From everything I've read, Red Sea salt is more natural and can have a bit more coloration or "sludge" to it than other salt mixes. I still use Tropic Marine Pro-Reef (German). It mixes crystal clear and can be kept mixed for long periods of time.
