I see some good deals for a used Apex base unit. If I were to just purchase that would I be able to use the Trident? Eventually I would pick up an EB832 but my main focus now is just getting a Trident. Anyone doing this currently?

As long as the base unit is the current model Apex (2016) or the Apex-EL, it will work with the Trident and any other modules you have. You cannot use the older Apex Classic, Apex Lite, or Apex Jr. with the Trident.
