Wondering how those of you with cameras have them hooked up?

I have a old Samsung tablet that just lies around. I was wondering if it is able to just plug into one of the aquabus ports and use it that way? It is also the charger port, so I have that issue.

Is there a different way to hook it up or have it show the picture?

I have a Foscam camera that is hooked up by network cable and has its own ip. You tell apex where it is and it finds it. Pretty good actually

Could you elaborate more? You have the apex, neptune Apex, control the camera? What does the apex do with the camera?

Thank you

I have an old and cheap IP camera that I connect to my router so I can see if someone feed the fish when I am not home :-); I don't know how to use it with the apex yet. right now I just set the port forwarding on the router and access the camera from my static IP address....works ok but the resolution sucks. 1 day I might upgrade to the high end camera so I can actually zoom in ...!

Never hook a device up to an Aquabus port that has not been specifically designed by Neptune Systems to interface with the Aquabus. That port looks like a USB port and it uses a USB connector, BUT ELECTRICALLY IT IS NOT A USB. If you connect a USB device to the Aquabus port you will fry something and it might turn out to be your Apex unit.

True. I've read that plainly in the instructions. Just curious if I could have used my option, doesn't sound like it though.

I have mine hooked into my router as well. No I can't control it from the APEX but I can control it from the Foscam software on my iPad. I can probably plat with it aff site as well but haven't tried it. I jut use it to see the fish I installed it to see if I could truth be told

I think there are a couple of threads about his with a ton of good information, but to sum it up, IMO you are better off using the software that comes with the camera rather than integrate it into the Apex. The Apex doesn't allow any controls and also displays at lower resolutions than the camera is capable of.

It's actually very great, I have had it for a year and it was old then.

So it would be better to find a camera and use its IP address instead of apex. Cool

Yes you can't use a camera directly with apex, since mine is behind a router sometimes it works

Yes, that is what I am doing. With the camera software, I can view the tank on any mobile device in high resolution along with the ability to pan and zoom the camera. With the Apex, you are stuck with a stationary live stream, at reduced resolution. I will agree, it is cool to login to your Apex and see the live feed of your tank, but the coolness will wear off quickly lol.

It's actually very great, I have had it for a year and it was old then, but I love it (plus I can spy on the wife as she sleeping on the coach, maybe a YouTube video of her - NOT)

You're taking it much better than I would. I'd be pretty ticked if I saw my wife sleeping on the coach...

Foscams are nice. I have them in the kids rooms to keep an eye on them. Bought a suction cup mount and stuck it to side of tank.

I am looking at these right now. How do you like it?
I like the nest cam a lot. clear picture, great zoom. The only catch is if you want recorded video you will have buy into a plan. The plan dose give the ability to down load, rewind for 30 days and share.

I'm another Foscam user and love it. I do not run it through the Apex for reasons mentioned above - degraded quality and inability to control. I too simply use the Foscam site to view, zoom, tilt, turn and do backflips.

Originally purchased for a planned trip away. I find it easy to use and useful to check on things...anytime I want!
