So I got this Apex from a friend. It’s been sitting in storage for maybe 2. I don’t know much about it. Last controller I had was a Digital Aquatics ReefKeeper. I’m going to wager I need new probes. Are any of the new accessories backwards compatible with this unit? Can I use the nifty web interface for programming? Or should I just upgrade to the new base? Thanks I’m advance for any advice or ridicule..

Yes, it should work fine. If the pH probe was not stored wet, it will likely need to be replaced. Temperature and/or Salinity probes should be fine. There are only a few newer modules that are not compatible, such as the Trident and the EB832. See my Apex Hardware Overview article for a complete list: https://www.reef2reef.com/ams/apex-hardware-overview.775/

Also, be sure to read this FAQ for instructions on how to transfer an Apex from a previous owner: https://forum.neptunesystems.com/showthread.php?7399-Transfering-an-Apex-To-or-From-Someone-Else

Once you have the basics set up and want to do more advanced programming, check out my series of Apex Programming Tutorials: https://www.reef2reef.com/ams/authors/suncrestreef.93940/

Happy reefing!
