Apex controller backlight only

I am new to using Apex equipment. I recently bought an Apex with several add-ons from a guy. Everything worked fine at his house. When we got it home and set it up, we could only get the controller backlight to come on, no words on the display. We looked up some troubleshooting issues and one common issue we saw was that it may need a firmware update. We've updated the firmware, but still don't get any words on the display. Any suggestions?

You will need to make sure the module itself and the control module is updated
