Aptasia are Indestricable !!!

Ive been battling aiptasia now for a year. Ive gotten to the point that I am resetting the tank. Its a shame as my coral has been doing amazing but I cannot beat the stuff. Ive added berghia multiple times and while I still see large ones going about the aquarium every now and then they dont seem to be be breeding. Seen egg spirals but thats it. No change in aiptasia density. I think my mandarin has been snacking on the berghia larvae.

The stuff is literally on aevery piece of rock and even on my sandbed at this point

His many did you add at one time?
How/when did you add?

I have used them twice. First time, was a good 2 years before having to add them again.
Second time it took 6 months before really noticing they were working, I really thought they all died.
Both times, wrasse and shrimp were in the system. They need to be added with lights off, as a pack, and let them crawl out of the container on there own.

Last time was 5 years ago I added. I got the stragglers here and there. Potassium Hydroxide is the quick killer that has less a threat to spread them all around as kalk paste and other liquids do.

Edit: meant also to say, last 6 months I have seen one in my system. That was 3 months ago. Fingers are crossed.

I tried a CBB . Took a little time but pretty much wiped out a large Frankie infestation

Wild caught peppermint shrimp are all that worked for me and i tried everything. Farm raised x4 never touched them. Tried all the chemical stuff, mojano wand and a molly miller blenny too. Wild peppermint ate all of it.

So added them both times at night, flow off and placed them in a jar and close to aiptasia. Left the flow off until all had climbed out onto rocks and then turned return pump on left powerheads off for another hour or so. Would see them for a few nights until nothing.

First time I added i added 4 or 5, second time about 3 months after first batch I added 11. For a while I saw them at night then none in the display tank. Started finding them in the sump. Collected and readded to display at night with flow and lights off.

Sump is 100% aiptasia free but even in there the egg spirals would disappear but no juveniles.

My tanks has no obvious predators

I do have a lot of amphipods which may be eating the eggs but cant say for sure.

Anyways Ive already built a new rock scape for the reset so kinda have to go through with it

In my early Reefing days, I worked out of Houston and joined MARSH (Marine Aquarium Reef Society of Houston). One of their events combined collecting Peppermint Shrimp at Port Aransas rock jetties with two reef aquarium clubs (Houston & San Antoine). For me it was a blast.

I shall soon make a trip to Galveston to collect at “ship chanel” rock jetty at night. I shall combine fishing with collecting. Here in Texas, wildlife & fisheries are ok with collections as long as no commercial sales are involved.

It’s my intention to fill a 10G tank as an Aptasia removal station wild caught peppermint shrimp.

In a small tank i remove them using either kalk paste, peroxide or super glue,thin or medium viscosity. The trick for the kalk paste and super glue is to go real slow and hit them in the center, once they start closing up i cover the whole aptasia and the base where its attached.
Takes some time but eventually they will be gone. The super glue works surprisingly well, just don’t get your fingers or fish glued.

Apparently amphipods eat the nudies eggs.
