After about 2 months of playing with my older EV-240 again on my new system I think I have finally found the sweet spot for it and thought maybe I could help if anyone else is having trouble with it.
One negative thing I've read about it is how hard it is to tune, but I remember it being super effective when I used it a few years back so I was wondering why I couldn't get it set correctly. I have it supplied now through my manifold from my reeflo hammerhead, why run another pump when it's not needed. I feel that is the benifit to the Aqua c series being simple downdraft.
Only problem with my setup is that I am playing sort of a guessing game on flow I'm delivering to the skimmer. I was running it with the gate completely open, and just adjusting the air intake to set the level of foam. I was getting strange bubble production of all different sizes and was having overflow issues and never great skimmate.
Finally out of frustration I re-read the pdf and realized that it says to raise the water level with the gate valve to the bottom of the inner box in the skimmer. Boy was this a game changer. I actually lowered the flow way down, raised the water level and have the air completely open.
It is now producing nice tiny bubbles and thick foam consistently. I just thought maybe this little tweak of the water level may help someone that has been having trouble. The close up picture is the level of water just under the inner "box"
My advice would be to lower flow from where you think it may need, raise the water level and blast that sucker with air. If anyone ever has questions or wants to discuss just PM me or post here. Happy reefing!
