Had a Reef Keeper Elite for awhile. Switched to an Apex. Both did/do the job. Neptune is more innovative and connecting to the internet is easier (especially with fusion). The Reef Keeper was easier to program but they aren't as innovative. They have however started to release some new products. I don't think you can really go wrong going from no controller to a controller. They all are a fantastic tool but with anything, they all have their positives and negatives.

Profilux makes a pretty nice controller.
The software is easier to program (most functions are pre defined) and the unit itself is user serviceable which is nice if something goes wrong or you want to add functionality.
The basic kit includes pretty
Much all you need and you can add on as you go.

But the Profilux system is around $1200 online right now for the deluxe model. A similar apex is around $500.

i love my neptune Apex. I travel alot for work and my wife doesn't want anything to do with it and it has saved me tons already.

there's also the Reef Angel products but I don't have any personal experience with them.

+1 for the apex.... I have the full version on my 120 and the apex jr on my 75. Just added auto feeders for when I'm away. No issues with either system (both were bought used) and are taking care of business. Programming is pretty easy and remote connectivity is awesome!

Actually for the $1200 you get every probe except the redox, plus float sensors and other things.
There is nothing wrong with the Apex, but I went from an Apex to a Profi and I am thrilled with it.

If you look at the apex gold, has all but breakout box and float switches.

It's all a matter if taste.
I have an apex that now is on my daughters tank. It doesn't need anything in the way of complex programming so.
My profilux runs my tank and fishroom with a lot if different things happening. Programming it is ridiculously easy in comparison to the apex.
But you purchase what you want based on personal preference. For me, having something with these options was worth the little extra. I have already added modules to expand it and it took a few minutes, no software to configure and I was back up an running.
