well I bought several of these and I'm kinda disappointed. They are not nearly as strong as I thought they'd be. They're fine for small frags, but not small colonies IMO. I would think using small mag-floats would be much stronger without doing a cost analysis...Oh well, they'll work for small frags which is fine.

where did you buy them from? and how thick is the acrylic/glass on your tank? maybe you got some of the old ones somehow?

the new ones are pretty darn strong. i have a colony the size of a baseball on one of mine. and have seen people with bigger stuff on them.

granted, theres no way you could put a colony the size of a soccer ball on one of those things. definitely would need a mag float for that.

but i have a feeling the thickness of your tank may be an issue here.

hey there Al, I stand corrected to a degree. A few other pieces are holding nicely. What I don't understand is on the website they have large pieces of rubble/rock attached to the mags. I don't see how they would hold????

I hand pick certain pieces of LR rubble that conform naturally to the shape of the magnet. I then use superglue gel and epoxy to attach the rubble to the magnet. I let the epoxy cure overnight and mount frags to the rubble the next day.

Even when I bump into frags attached to the mangets, they don't fall. They usually just swivel. I have a 55 gallon AGA tank.
