Well, I wasnt going to do a build thread but I guess I'll just use it as sort of a diary for myself!

I kept some tropical fish in highschool and hadnt kept fish for over 10 years. I wanted to try marine fish/corals because I've always thought they were so cool! It seems the Tech has come far

Set up is a aquaone minireef 120. 120L display tank and 30L sump.
Great white Gw5 skimmer, Illumagic blaze x mini, moray 2300 return pump, Eheim jager heater. Sedra sw4 wavemaker (2nd on on its way). Tunze Nano ATO and Tunze 8811 fuge light.

Initially I had some trouble with the durso standpip noise but managed to make a custom reverse durso in the sump with a ballvalve to reduce noise and the bubbles.
Cycled with 1.5ppm Ammonia and seachem stability initially, but then added Dr tims bacteria 2 weeks in. The nirites peaked at 0.6 and went down and ammonia closely followed. Nitrates were stealdily going up te whole time. Cycle took about 5/6 weeks and I redosed ammonia later in the cycle because the ammonia was stuck at 0.25 and wouldnt go down, but then upon redosing it processed it within 36 hours.

Did a big water change, with aquaforest reef salt.

Added fish today finally, two small clowns that initally stuck to the bottom corner but now they are swimming around a lot more. Also have two small plate corals, Fungia coral and a heliofungia. Two snails. The alk from my salt mix was 7 checked with both hanna checker and JBL, at a salinity of 1.025 so I am slowly dosing alk to get it up to 9.

Current parameters:

Temp 25
Salinity 1.025
Ammonia 0
Nitrite 0
Nitrate 4.7
Phos: 0
Alk: 7
PH: 8
Calc & MG: to come

Tested alk today still sitting at 6.9 with the Hannah checker. I’ve been dosing 1ml every hour carbonate (coral essentials carbonate +trace) to try to raise the alk slowly the last 24 hours but it hasn’t moved. Going to get the Hannah calcium checker and a magnesium test kit tmmrow. clowns are mostly staying in the left front of the glass now near the corner but they venture out sometimes. Won’t eat yet.

temp 25
Salinity 1.025
Ph 8
Alk 6.9

Been feeding my red scooter dragonet brine shrimp but I’ve decided to culture cope pods in the refugium to help him and all other inhabitants. Got two more corals, one hammer and one neon Goni and a yellow clown coral goby.
All parameters and inhabitants look happy!
Alk 8.7
Nitrates 4.4
Phos 0.02
Ph 8.1

my DD fan and controller also arrived

copepods are going crazy and There are lots in the display. Fish are happily picking at them all day. Copepods also did a really good job of cleaning up the sand bed and glass, the rocks look so white now. The Goni has been closed for a few days so I’m keeping an eye on it. Got a carpenters fairy wrasse that is loving it and a few more hammers and a elegance
