Aquarium brand recommendation??

My Brand new Marineland 120g reef ready tank had a silicone issue and a small leak between the overflow and the bottom of the tank.

My LFS is going to accept a return and now I am wondering if Indhould get another Marineland or not..

The LFS carries Aqueon/AGA the usual suspects.

Anyone have any recommendations on brands for a 120 gallon? Mine was 48x24x24 which is what I would like to stick with..

Any stories of Marineland problems would also help reinforce my decision haha

I have had to of thier tanks and never had any issues, they are typically a really good brand. I would try on from them again, plus I hear they have great customer support.

I have read way too many horror stories about Marineland to ever buy one. From people waking up to the sound of the front panel cracking in half, to people finding leaks on the bottom (under the sand) etc and countless fish lost from these issues, I don't trust them. If you are willing, DSA makes great tanks. I have their 110 gallon and it's 60X20X21 inches.

I've had both DSA and Planet Aquarium tanks and both are great.

Searching on Marineland aquarium products brings up anecdotal issues. I will just rely on an inspection of the aquarium deal and ensure my stand is 100% level.

Everyone has a story of good/bad experiences.

That is true, just seems like Marineland has had a rash of issues. You will likely cringe when I say Glass cages but my 240, 125 glass and 65 acrylic have been great for 10yrs

Just found out my LFS can get a Deep Blue that fits the stand.

Thoughts on Deep Blue??

Deep Blue is a good brand :) Wow, I didn't realize you were here in Maryland with me!!! Have you tried CTE Aquatics and House of Tropicals? If you are willing to drive up into lower PA That Pet Place/That Fish Place has tons of tanks and great pricing. Plus beautiful livestock :D

Yup! I live in Annapolis area.

I was at House of Tropicals earlier today, they carry Marineland, Deep Blue, Aqueon. Deep Blue and Marineland are the only two that support corner overflow. Aqueon is out because I really dont like the center overflow. It blocks the water flow in the tank and makes the aquascaping more difficult.

Between Marineland and Deep Blue it is honestly a toss up, I prefer the Marineland single over flow (Deep Blue may be able to do this as well but I am not 100% on that yet). The Marineland glass apears to be 3/8" thick and the the Deep Blue appears to be 1/2" thick so that is something. Not really a huge deal because I think 3/8" can more than support the water weight within the tank but it is a difference from what I measured.

I have been scouring the interwebs and all I can say is NO ONE, not one single person has/knows anything about the hierarchy of tank quality. Everyone is anecdotal "I heard this" or "This happened to me" or "My friend heard from a guy who knew someone who baby sat for someone who had this happen"

It's impossible to know what brand is quality and what is not..so I have resigned myself to just having to inspect the ever loving hell out of the tank that I get when I swap out my existing 120 next wednesday.

Its all a crap shoot and my searching the web has just made me skeptical of all aquariums...so...theres that.
