Aquarium bridge for Snowflake Moray

Hello all, as a preface I’d like to inform yall that I’m peeking into the proverbial world of saltwater aquariums and more specifically the eel I want to house in one. I have no experience with anything aquarium related, hence the inquiry. However my situation is unqiue and has its limitations.
My apartment has a 50 gallon max aquarium size as its limit, as far as i can tell, keeping a JUVENILE snowflake moray in this is fine until it starts to grow into a adult and then a 75-125 gallon starts to become the norm. However because my apartment wont let me keep any amphibians, reptiles or anything besides fish, cats, and your average weiner dog, im at the end of my rope because your boy likes snakes, eels, and anything that has that danger noodle feeling about it. As a golden dwarf eel might be my fallback, I understand they are for more advanced keepers and I am attracted to the beginner friendly aspect of the snowflake. This being said here is my question:

Would a pvc water bridge that connects two, 50 gallon aquarium labyrinth systems provide the right amount of space for the eel or is the footprint more important than the square footage?

In theory that could work for a snowflake. It could also violate the apartment management's restrictions if they interpret the 50 gallons max restriction as system total volume. Designing and building a system like that which would also be relatively easy to move is an additional complication. It seems to me a golden dwarf moray in a 40 breeder would be simpler all around.

So, first part is that Golden Dwrafs aren’t more difficult necessarily. They are just almost unobtainable and most sold online are scams. They are mostly found in Hawaii where collecting is illegal.

As for the snowflake, that would work great. It would need a 2” pipe probably. Eels love tubes.

You could potentially do an engineer goby in a 40. Just so long as you dedicate it to the fish. Lots of sand and rock for it to make a nice burrow.

That does bring up a great point, I will inquire further. I was thinking that having a removable u-joint as the bridge with caps I could put on the two open ends would let me isolate bro in one tank while I clean the other without stressing him out and worrying about him jumping out. At this point I feel like either way im spending the same aswell, a extra 50 gallon would cost the same as a dwarf. The challenge of it all is very attractive. Thanks for the response!

Oh wow that is actually an interesting idea! My eels usually swim around the rocks at the bottom of the tank, so if you made the bridge at the bottom of the tank and put rocks in it like a cave I could see any of my 4 morays loving that and using it! Just keep in mind air potentially will build up in the U-tube. Even using black PVC I'd try to figure out away to monitor how much air is collecting in it and a method to remove it.
