So building my own stand. Gonna put a back on it and a base platform. My question is what kinda paint do people normally use for the inside of the stand? Was thinking going black, but would a different color be be better?

If at all possible go white or the lightest color you like (grey). White will reflect improving the lighting, let you see dirt/mulm (assuming clear bottom sump), find dropped magnets, see cords better.

I'm going for white appliance epoxy on my build. Following what @homer1475 did

I used the rustoloem epoxy paint designed for appliances on my stand. It's stark white, easy to wipe up spills, and leaves a nice hard, shiny finish on the wood.

Also being stark white, with the little light in my stand, it makes it very easy to see whats going on down there.

oh forgot to mention, use some painters caulk on the seams of your stand, as well as any screw/nail heads, then paint away.

With the epoxy paint, and caulk, all spills stay in my stand and on the paint.

I’d recommend putting a primer on there first, which should help the new paint coat more evenly and should also help seal the wood a bit better. Just be sure to check that the primer will work with the type of paint you end up using.
