I’ve been in the hobby for about a year and am LOVING it. One thing I’ve sucked with though, is aquascapes. I added some more live rock in yesterday and came up with this. Any complaints, thoughts, ideas, or constructive criticism?

That looks OK to me. Maybe move the rock on the far left to the right or out in front and it would look a bit more 'balanced'. But that's just me. There is nothing wrong with what you have.

As an aside, I think new reefers, and even reefers in general, put WAY too much emphasis on rockscapes. As long as it looks good to you and allows you to do what you want to do with the tank, it's OK. Some scapes are way too vertical which makes adding coral very difficult (assuming they want to add coral). IMHO, if a tank gets to mature for a year or two or three, the corals get added and grow. By the end of the 3rd year you almost can't see the rockscape and the corals can make it look completely different than what was started.

That said, anybody who has looked at my 40g cube (24"x24"x20") rockscape in my build thread knows I'm a bit out of the ordinary. And now I'm doing a 90g tank (36"x30"x20") and anybody who has seen that build thread knows I'm very different! ;Hilarious;Hilarious;Hilarious;Hilarious

Both build threads have links in my signature below.

+1... personally, I re-aquascape often... as things grow or new corals are added, I’ll try different placements. I can’t remember ever being disappointed with any new scapes!

I'd move the rock on the far left to the right rear. That will give you 3 points coming forward and more flow all around.

Same! I feel like I aquascape too much though.

Hi, nice tank you have there,

In the end, as long as flow is good, it must be visually appealing to you. But if you are unhappy and want some ideas,
you probably want to check out this Thread by Ardeus. He gives awesome advise and a lot of concepts to follow.
Probably read up on Golden ratio and rule of thirds also.
That said, my personal opinion is that the visual weight is to much on the left and the two structure look very similar. I would move the whole rockstructure to the right a bit and the taller structure even more. The similarly could be broken by simply rotating/moving back or forth one of the structures. This would also give some depth to the tank.

Good luck.

Thanks, I’m really worried about flow and I don’t think I have it down as a lot of detritus isn’t swept up into the intake. I didn’t even realize the similarity but now I see it and need to fix it! Haha, thanks for the help
