Big things in a little tank make the tank look small. Small things make even a pico tank feel big.

This goes for everything including sand grain size, fish size, equipment size, coral polyp size, and coral colony size.

In large tanks, any one coral colony/anemone of a single color is good, but in a nano it can get overwhelming. Best to find smaller specimens or specimens with multiple colors so that the small footprint isn't dominated by one color too easily.

Plan your scape using the rule of thirds and the golden ratio. Download an app, take a bunch of photos, make adjustments based on what you see and your overall goals for the tank. Plan out places in advance for different corals and fish based on light and flow requirements and potential hiding places

Nano scapes deserve critters like copepods, baby brine and even mysis. Fill in the simplest parts of the food chain.

Have an idea in your mind, and when your fresh gulf rock arrives (@LiverockRocks ), adapt that design to the shape of the rocks you have and get them in the tank while they're still wet! It will be beautiful when all the life in those rocks wakes up. Add some new life little by little.

Personal taste but don’t forget the top of the water column either, plan coral to fill it or build your scape to hit it.

Less is more, don’t overstock and cram a bunch of rock and coral in. Might be a personal opinion but a minimalistic approach is what I like with a nano. Let the tank breath a little haha

Keep your rock no higher than 2/3 of the display height. This will allow for vertical growth over the years.

When I had a jar/nano 3 gallon tank, I epoxied the rock in the aquascape that I wanted. I could even remove it and place in a 5 gallon bucket when cleaning and doing a water change.

Don't be afraid to try different aquascapes. Play around with it until you like how it looks. Also make sure that there is good water flow so you don't have any dead spots

I have a problem with my skimmer over skimming??

What kind of skimmer is it? I have a coralife skimmer. It works pretty well. At the beginning I had to tweak it a bit so it wouldn't just be water in the cup, but a little thicker skimmate. I had to break it in for about a week.

I have a red sea reefer 300 but it's just water in cup and at all the way nob to minus ??
