I got a glass holes for my 40g breeder and I'm happy with it.

Which one? I'm between modular marine, synergy and glass-holes. For glass-holes, I'm looking at the 700 with emergency pipe.

According to Aqueon there 40b do not have tempered bottom panels.

You gotta watch this, at least when buying from Petco. I went there last month during the $1pg sale, and they had a stack of 40b's (50% off). But that stack of 40b's had a bottom bracket, something I've never seen on an Aqueon 40b, and something Aqueon's website doesn't ackowledge. Right then and there I knew something was up. Turns out, at some point Petco was using Tetra/Marineland tanks. The tanks they were selling were Tetra/Marineland tanks with no branding on them, literally a stack of unbranded tanks, surrounded by stacks of 10, 20l, 20h, 29, 55, 75 gallon Aqueon tanks. But the sale says "40b all Aqueon and Marineland tanks," so nothing was untruthful. Tetra/Marineland tanks have, at the very least, tempered bottoms, Aqueon 40b's do not.

So double, triple check to make sure you got an Aqueon. I didn't buy from Petco. Instead I visited the Petsmart a half-mile away to see if I was mistaken. While looking I explained my issue. At that point the salesman said they price match, and I got a Petsmart Aqueon 40b for 50% off their price ($89 instead of $99) so I actually saved money.

I have the 700gph glass holes. I don't have an emergency pipe though. Just the overflow and return pipes.

Also according to Aqueon, they will substitute tempered panels based on production load. Best advice is to visually test the glass to see if its tempered before drilling. Use a LCD screen laptop with a polarized lens, you'll see the stress lines and strain effects on tempered glass.

If the glass is tempered on the bottom, there will be a sticker saying so and not to drill it. That's how my Aqueon was. I bought it about two years ago.

I went with the Modular Marine,I'm happy with the construction. I have holes drilled,in 40 breeder. I'm still building when time and money allow. I really like the door slides idea. It would be sweet if they were on a hinge also.
