Are aquarists never satisfied?

Being a young single Pringle, what I’m hearing is...

n=number of tanks for divorce/breakup
x=number of tanks owned

desired tanks=x+1
&
Allowed tanks=n-1

Then the secret to a happy marriage/relationship is as follows~

the math is a little fuzzier than you have theorized, imo
given your definitions, if one side of the equation has:
R=reefer
and
S=Spouse
and
C=children
are on one side or the other
and O = desires other than tanks
and $= total money available
and T= amount of time that is available to all parties for fulfillment of desires
and A= appreciation, affection, attention that each has for the other expressed as positive or negative balance.
you can see that X could be a very large number or a small number with N changing daily

There is actually an algorithm to calculate how many tanks you need. It is X+1=desired tanks. Where X is the number of tanks you currently have, and you just need one more.

But remember not all spouses/significant others are hobbiests, so to paraphrase the knowledge of the cycling community, the proper number of tanks is n-1, where “n” is the number of tanks that would lead to divorce (and it works for bicycles also...I have 4 fish tanks but am allowed 5 bicycles!)

I think many are not satisfied because they never had a plan.
I had a plan and stuck to it.
20 months later I have no room for other corals unless I remove some.
Overall im satisfied with the results and the look of my tank.

I agree with that statement.

12 years later and now round two, my new (and old) gear sat idle for well over 18 months until I had a plan in I didn’t want to do things half done And remembers that once you dive it, setting up a reef tank is a big investment and commitment.

Hardware, and coral are now purchased with a overall vision in mind. Once the tank is populated with the right coral and colours in place, I hope to put the reef on cruise control.

I don’t make too many spontaneous coral purchased like years ago. I’m also a little cheap. That said, during the first few months I did put some sacrificial frags in the tank to see how it would turn out... I miss live rock.
