Are filter socks still worth it?

I run socks in my bigger tank that I change out on Sundays. I switched from socks a filter tube with a screen on top. I cut poly-fill batting sheets to size on top of the screen. I replace them every couple days. I just threw some rock rubble in the tube and leave it there.
