They can get along, however, Niger triggerfish are not completely reef-safe, and four-stripe damsels are pretty aggressive. But, if you have a large tank, it will probably be fine.

what size is the tank? As long as the smaller fish have refuge they should be good. I would skip out on the 4 stripe damsel entirely though. They can take over a large portion of the tank.

triggerfish should be 180 gallon tank, no way it should be in a 40 gallon, not even as a baby. 40 gallon is still a nano tank, best to keep to nano fishes, fishes that don't grow more than 3"-4"

stick to smaller fish, also mandarins should not be added unless the tank is at least a year old to let the microfauna they feed on populate. Personally I would go for a pygmy angelfish, pair of clowns, longnose hawkfish, and a royal gramma.

Good to know I'm all new to this and I asked my lil guy what fish he wanted and I think he just went for the colors haha I want to set up the tank with corals and live rock as well

Thank you for doing the due diligence, your fish will thank you for it! Royal grammas have very nice colors for their small size, clowns are fun and recognizable to kids as well. Live aquaria lists most fish you should see at your local fish store and has good recommendations when it comes to tank size, but I wouldn't order any fish from them.
