So didn’t do enough research and found out that these fish are picky and don’t take pellets.
So I took some shavings from a frozen table shrimp. At least they are going for it, but then it looks like they spit it out!?!?

is that what they are really doing? Any suggestions? Thanks in advance

I’ve had fish sample food; goldfish are nefarious for picking it up, chewing and then spitting it out. They could be eating the meatier parts and spitting out parts they don’t find palpable. I’d get some frozen mysis or brine shrimp from the LFS when possible.

My banggai eat pellets.

I trained him/her with throwing in a few pellets while I fed frozen. I'm guessing from watching the other fish eat the pellets, he/she decided to try them also.
This worked for me as well, sort of unintentionally over time. Running late getting out the door? -> drop in some pellets instead of frozen. After a while (maybe 6 mo?) I noticed the cardinals going after the pellets.

I wish. I’ve had mine for about a year now and just refuses anything that’s not frozen/thawed.

I have pajamas, They eat live worms, white and black. Also frozen mysis and other frozen foods like Rods. The larger black worms they suck in, chew, then spit pieces out, then pick out the smaller pieces.
