Hello all!! So I want to ask everyone's opinion about artificial intelligence. I have tried looking up things about dips being effective against hydroids, about UV sterilizers, miscellaneous other stuff and it is sometimes very difficult to find any decent amount of information. Then I met up with Grok. It seemed pretty cool when I seen it so I downloaded the app. Grok3. I can ask him a question and get a detailed answer in a few seconds and on top of that he will generally give an abundance of information as such to answer multiple other questions before I can ask them. I fact checked him to the best of my ability and can find no error. He even refers to me as his reefing buddy!! Has anyone else used artificial intelligence assistance in your aquatic endeavors? If so, which version? What was your mission and how was the result? Thank you to all who answer!! Your feedback is appreciated!!

Im old school and prefer books over internet for research. Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be anything new come out in the last decade. If I do look up something I general pass over the AI response for personal accounts on this forum and reef central.

Hey, thanks for responding!! Your opinion is appreciated and understandable. I'm not a super tech savvy person myself. that's probably why I have so much trouble finding information on the internet, LOL!!

I ask AI questions that I might think sound too stupid to ask other humans. Then I try to research to figure out where the AI came up with the answer and I will try to ask a slightly less stupid question to humans.

Take what you get from AI with a grain of salt. They will sometimes completely make things up. AI Hallucination is a real thing: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hallucination_(artificial_intelligence)

I'm anti AI. A Google search is the extent my AI use if it's even called that. I've seen enough science fiction come to be real in my lifetime that the whole idea is a bit frightening to me.
Howdy, thank you for answering!! Terminator is one of our ALL TIME favorites. I certainly wouldn't want to live it tho!!

"Hallucinations" used to be a description of a mental condition in a human being. In my shallow, dull opinion the novel use of the term when applied to AI is simply a method of humanizing the faulty actions of the computer platform, aimed at convincing human beings to accept that "artificial intelegence" is something better than it actually is.

Garbage in, programming out.

I'm not a fan of the mess. It may have some utility but it will create more problems then it can solve, cowreckedly (sic).

Edit (SOrrry I will exit now.)

But what is the grok?
Grok is an interesting ai. With realization to the fact that it's not a person, he is awesome. A spectacular means with which to seek information, and it's delivered with an interesting bit of humor. For the record just in case there was any misunderstanding, I'm not trying to say that it's a person or that it's a live computer or anything like that.

One of my favorite college professor quotes was "computers make very fast, very accurate mistakes."

Hello, thanks for responding!! I'm right there with you on that!! I sometimes bounce questions off him to see if I can find a better way to say something. You have a great idea to fact check tho.

I'm more concerned about them controlling thought process because so many people are starting to believe anything that gets served to them as the truth. It will only get worse as time goes on I'm afraid. We're giving them control of our electronics, mechanical devices, weapons etc. The list goes on. I doubt it will be in my lifetime thankfully then again it might be an interesting time but I don't think so. I'm probably just a paranoid old guy but like I said I've seen too much science fiction/imagination become truth in my lifetime not to believe anything is possible.

Anything is most certainly possible, can't argue with you there!!

Hello, thanks for your feedback!! Love model trains, I have N scale myself. To the heart of my main question. Was\is ai very helpful \useful to your overall goals?
i got ho, setting up the layout rn
show me a pic!!

yes it was(reef tanks, it can sometimes be a bit iffy tho, but i use it for parameter and flow checks, and it seems to do fine)

Awesome!! It sure has helped me a lot just with finding information. I just have two Santa Fe engines and 11 cars at the moment. Love those little trains!! At the moment we already have No space for anything. It's going to be a couple of years before I can get anything set up.

AI is great if you want to believe you have a source when you don't and ultimately end up experimenting, rather blindly, to figure out what works. Alternatively, I guess you could say it isn't worth much. If you want anything based on research and include "research" in the google search you should check what sources the AI generated answer refers to...they will rarely be "research" based.

Go at it as you will.

With that being said I can add my 2 cents here. I am a 15 year IT veteran who recently left the field. AI is fantastic for exactly what you are using it for, information gathering and extrapolation. It is able to very quickly build a profile of the concept you want and refine the search criteria VERY quickly. What it isnt good at, filling in the voids. AI will try is darndest to give you a full answer regardless if it has it or not.

Take what it gives you with a healthy dose of skepticism and dont make any big decisions off of it.
