Asm g2 skimmer loud

Bought this skimmer used. No sponge for the drain pipe. But, I think I must have something set up wrong. I have included a photo of how the water is flowing out of the pipe. Seems way too much water exiting and it creates a loud waterfall. All of the YouTube videos on this have the water more tricking out along the sides of the pipe.

Has anyone ever experienced this? Anyone have advice?
