I just purchased an astrea snail, I'm wondering do they rest a lot? Mine seems to, it certainly has eaten though, as some areas of my tank's glass are spotless now

I have four now and watch them like a hawk. They do rest a lot. Sometimes for days. Sometimes on the rocks, the glass, at the top of the tank. Then they awaken and eat like crazy. I don't think they have a regular sleep cycle. Sometimes they are only active at night, then they switch to being active by day. They just do what ever they want, when they want. Must be nice to be an astrea.

My favorite snail. They can get in places others can't and not bulldozers like turbos. There usually more active at night. Check the bottom for pyramid snails if it seems a bit to sluggish.

I've got a dozen of these myself and yes they seem to eat a pretty large amount then rest for a little while,I agree with above they do seem to prefer to move at night but I have seen them active in the day. They also seem to like to chill out at the rim and overflow of my tank just at the water line so they seem to be intertidal.
