Hi folks,

I came down this morning to see the legs of my largest RL Hermit sticking out the side of my astrea snail. He then quickly gobbled the rest of him. Didnt get a pick of the action but astrea is pictured below.

I never thought these snails would eat other tank inhabitants. Not sure if crab was dead or not when it happened but still... is this normal?

Thanks

I think it's the other way around. The crab killed the snail and use the shell as it's new home.

Thats what I would've expected but no, definitely not. Snail ate crab.

Then crab was already dead. There is no way an astrea snail could kill a healthy hermit crab.

Agreed. Just surprised they ate meat. Thought they were more into algae.
