At a "loss" about head loss

I checked with the manufacturer. The pipe used for the return is DN20, and the pipe used for the overflow is DN25. This apparently equates to an internal diameter of 3/4 inch for the return and 1 inch for the drain and overflow.

Ok, no reason not to plumb it at 3/4 then.

Roughly, every fitting including 90deg and 45deg elbows counts as a foot of head loss. Horizontal runs also count. Again, roughly. If the pump you are using has a max output of 2000gph and a max head loss of 6m (18ft). That 2000gph is usually at zero foot head loss. At 6m(18ft) or more of head loss the output would be 0gph. So if your plumbing has a run 3m(9ft) then the output of the pump would roughly be 1000gph. Since the plumbing was half the length of the max head loss the output would be half.
