Ati icp result, rodi silicon super high!

I just tested the ro water and it was 7 from 287 from tap water. After di filter its goes down to 0 to1, back n forth. So am pretty sure the ro membrane and di resin is still good.
thats a 97.6% rejection rate so your membrane is still fine.

A properly working di resin with effluent at 0 ppm tds should not let through 35 ppm of silicate. While silicate is only a concern if diatoms are an issue, I’d consider adding another mixed bed di after the one that purportedly letting through silicate.

Thanks Randy for your response, my tds reading is 0 and 0 when ive sent the rodi water sample to ati icp. Am just confused if my rodi water really has 34000 of silicon. I do have little bit of cyano on the sand bed, nothing serious so should i be concerned about changing my color changing di resin, color is still good?

If you do not have a diatom problem, I’d ignore the Si value. Some fine tanks have super high values. I’m not even sure what exactly the chemical is in those cases.

Did you ever figure this out? I have encountered a similar issue. I am going to send off another ICP, that does not involve my discharge hose from mixing station (to eliminate sources). I do not believe my extremely high number is coming out of my rodi system. I think it may be leaching into water after the filters. My tanks numbers are within normal 150 range. I took my icp sample from the hose and I do not believe I ran the hose at all or very minimal prior to filling sample. Maybe the hose flushes out with just a few cups of water or less, could explain it not elevating my aquarium numbers.

I have been using this water source for awhile and can not understand why my tank numbers are normal 150 but ro numbers were at 4500.

Assuming you are talking about Si, I see no conundrum. If you add 1% daily as top off, that is adding 45 ppb per day. That can be easily consumed by tank organisms such as diatoms.

I intentionally add more than that. Today I added 17 times that amount. :)

Thank you.
Im still learning and this was my first icp test. Having 4500 painted in red and saying critically high on my ro test worried me. My tank does not appear to have any diatoms though. I am chasing a little algea but it does not seem outrageous. My tank sample was around the 150 mark, which had me confused.

I will just keep my rodi system maintained and observe. I dont want to chase problems I dont have.

I expect that is not zero ppm tds water, and replacing the di will lower it, but Si in the tank or in top off is not a concern at any level if diatoms are not growing at problem levels.

The sky is always falling at many icp companies. lol
