Oceamo Icp VS Triton

I have been busy and just got around to analyzing the two ICP results. A group of us did this on a larger scale several years ago, now forgotten. Anyway, the story remains the same, OES tends to become quite variable below 10 ppb and results deviate from MS. In the plot below, the X-axis is micromolar. The relative difference data (Y-axis) is Triton minus Oceamo divided by the average of the two for elements in common. If we were comparing just OES results, the variability would still be apparent starting about 10 ppb or 10 micromolar. The take home message is you need to spend more money for accuracy below 10 ppb. If you are not particularly interested in all the trace elements, save your money and use OES detection.

Thank you so much now I totally understand. I did bit more research because of you chart and I got it and appreciate you input.
10 ppb is not the same as 10 micromolar (µM). The conversion depends on the element’s atomic weight. For example, 10 ppb iodine is only about 0.079 µM, while 10 ppb lithium is about 1.44 µM.

Glad you found the analysis useful.

You are absolutely correct. The 10 ppb “limit” was derived from a study of data in μg/L. It is a happy coincidence and scarce data points that the “limit” also appears to be about 10 μΜ. With more data, the “limit” might actually increase to 10-100 ppb, but for aquarium keeping, the current 10 ppb limit could be good enough to decide whether or not to use OES detection.

Thank you so much for sharing your experience, I have been doing Reefmoonshiner program its great but its get so expensive and it takes so much time to dose everything. I am going to try MYTE and see how it works. Their office that conducts ICP test is around 10 miles away form my office.
I was a moonshiner and switched to triton MYTE as well. It is far easier.

Ryan with Serious Reefs just did a video comparing 7 ICP tests. It is the first ICP investigation in a series that Serious Reefs will be posting. Interesting stuff. Serious Reefs is a paid for subscription but I've found it worth the cost. I think you can join for free for a short trial period.

Serious Reefs was generous to share the ICP data. I will have the analysis results soon.

Do you see any difference in your corals , since you have switched
I certainly don't see any declines. But my journey went: AFR -> Moonshiners -> Triton.

I'm finally getting the Core7 dosing dialed in, so onward I believe I will see more stability which may improve corals? Who knows, but things were already doing pretty well before I switched to Triton.
