Neptune atk stopped working for almost 12 hours. This has happened a couple times and only have had it a couple weeks. First question is do the sensors need cleaned very often? Second question can you program an alarm that I would get if the atk doesn't turn on for say 2 hours?

1) Yes, I would clean them sometimes. I had one sensor that got a little too much light, and would grow algae. Every now and then it would stop reporting, and just needed all the goop wiped off.

2) You can, you need to use a virtual outlet. I don't have code for this, but I have something similar:

If Surge CLOSED Then ON
Defer 045:00 Then ON
If Output Cor_Acc_V = OFF Then OFF
Min Time 005:10 Then OFF

The defer here says if the surge switch is closed for 45 minutes, turn on, and then I check if the COR is off, and switch it off. You will need to play with this a bit, as it's not quite right for you, but more or less you want to look at a virtual outlet, and the defer statement.

It’s happened a few times to me, and mainly when It was new. You need to wipe the sensors but not often

I created a virtual outlet called ATK Fail which goes to ON if the ATK primary sensor has been open (needs water) for more than 180 minutes with a DEFER command

I then added an alarm to the alarm list if the ATK Fail is ON

Hopefully that makes sense!

To be honest, I don’t trust the ATK 100% due to initial faults and failures, and if it ever fails it will be replaced by the Tunze Osmolator which I have used before and still am In my big tank.

When I first got mine, it drove me nuts. Constant alarms, sensors getting dirty, etc etc. Over time, I adjusted and fiddled, and now basically it works and I forget about it. I think the default programming is maybe ok for some tanks, but like for mine, that basically drinks water all day, it was too twitchy. I also had to shield it from light, mess with the position in the sump, etc etc.

But yeah, now, I haven't touched it in a year, other than the occasional "hrrm, no alerts for a few months, is it still working?, oh, ok, yes, it is"

@SPR1968 @SuncrestReef
I followed the tutorial in suncrestreefs article but the alarm goes off every two hours no matter what. Below is my programming, do I have something wrong? Also should the slider be left on auto for the alarm? Thanks

Ok, so, your When statement is what puts it into alarm state. That says if it runs for more than 2 minutes, freak out and shut down. I don't know what your evap rate is, or how big your tank is, but maybe you just need more time. I think mine is set to something crazy like 20-30 minutes, but I have a big tank and the water levels move around a ton.

I'm guessing you need more than 2 minutes to refill, so maybe start moving that When up higher until it doesn't alarm, and you feel like it's working. Don't just set it to something crazy, because that is what saves you from it just overflowing the tank if the sensors die. You need to kinda understand the water needs of your tank, and how long it should run on average. If you can deal with the alarms a bit longer, maybe start moving it up 1 minute at a time, and be concerned if it gets above 10-15?

The sensor is in the return of a reefer 250 sump, I don't lose a lot to evaporation. When it kicks on it only runs for about 30 seconds and shuts off.

Hrmm.. so, no, the slider should not be set to OFF for the alarm, it should be on auto. What exactly is the alarm you keep getting then?

The virtual outlet alarm "Alarm_ATO" that I want to go off when my Ato does Not run for 2 hours. Following the article it should be if the low sensor is open for more then 120 minutes signaling the pump has not turned on

I think that Set Off is what I was missing. Stupid me! Thanks!

Also I had it on auto but moved to off to turn the alarm off. Thank you both
