Wondering if any ATT fiber users out there use their own router or if its even necessary to do so. Fiber to be installed in house in the coming weeks. Have been looking at upgrading my router for quite some time now, although I see their gateway is a combo router and modem. Just need something fast. Tired of old, slow internet and signal dropout.

Hope it works out for you. ATT fiber seems to be a love it or hate it proposition. Our local community board is full of people with ATT fiber that have outages for days and some say they can't even get dsl speeds on their connection.

As for your question. Probably best to just wait and see how their router performs. You say router so I'm not sure if you mean wifi router or not, but assume you are. I personally have a orbi mesh setup and it has worked great for several years. I'm on 1 gig cable and it works great. Only issue I've had is that orbi treats both bands as 1 so it has made initial setup more difficult than it should be on a couple of devices that are 2.4ghz only.

I’m switching to Fiber as well and trying to figure out how to get the doser on it. Could be a simple task or might be a PITA.

My fiber is lighting fast.

Our neighborhood is being wired for fiber right now. It is a new concept that works like our electricity system. A company is laying the fiber and will own it but they are not offering internet services. There will be several companies that offer service and you can choose whichever you want. In theory this should keep prices low. They say you can change providers monthly if you want to go thru the hassle. They are also saying the top package will be 10gig service. I'm waiting for them to go live for a few months and see how the reviews are. I'm currently on 1gig cable and I can't complain. They are always up and I've always had great customer service. I'm hoping the fiber will get them to start offering more packages, especially with higher upload speeds. There is also ATT fiber in my area but I've read a ton of bad reviews including some people that say they are getting dsl speeds.

So I bought my own router and will send my rental back to the ISP.

I’m going to use my router to isolate my devices and set a static IP and access their network.

I have an Ethernet port installed that I can plug into.

Not looking forward to moving GHL doser off my current network and router and moving it to a new location with new wifi. Going to be a blast. Lol.

I think that is the best option. If you have a large house then most likely you will need to go with your own. ATT has extenders but they will most likely charge an over inflated monthly rental fee for each one you need. I personally have found a mesh system to work the best for me. Costco carries a couple of different brands and they always seem to have one of them onsale. I personally like my orbi because of the parental features available. I can turn certain devices on or off at certain times or I can do that with a group of devices. So my 16yo daughter knows at 10pm all her devices are losing internet service.

I just had Josh Kraft come in on team viewer and got mine setup with the new router and static IP. Put in a ticket on the GHL website and get Josh. Of course Vinny is a master too.

I bought a NETGEAR NightHawk AC1900
Preowned Router (normally $150-200) on Amazon for $60. Works like a champ and looks brand new. Josh recommended it.

Thats awesome! I've got ATT coming to the new house on Friday. We're they able to set up your own router? Maybe I can go grab one quick and have it for when they come over. Would rather have some pros set everything up if possible.

That router setup like a breeze. I did that myself. I basically followed the directions that came with the router. Super simple though. Then I had Josh from GHL come in and put my doser on my own network with a static IP (on new router). So if I want to run the doser I just switch over to my NETGEAR Wi-Fi. Otherwise I stay on the Fiber Wi-Fi and my wife stays on that one too. It’s slightly faster. So now I have like 4 different Wi-Fi’s

I have NETGEAR86, NETGEAR86-5G (faster, almost as fast as the fiber), then I have one that my APT complex setup for every individual apt…Name+my apartment #, and another one for the community in general.

I just switch between the NETGEAR86-5G and the APT #.

I’d grab this one bro:

Worst router I ever owned! It works great as long as you don't split the 2.5 and 5ghz networks. Mine kept dropping wifi nearly every day at some point during the day. I put up with it for the last 3 years. I recently bought as netgear knighthawk RAXE500. Pricey for sure, but one of the best routers I've ever owned! Speeds are blazing fast(LAN speeds), never drops a connection, and since its a netgear router, super simple to setup.

Mine hasn’t had any issues. Doser is working perfectly and much faster than before since the GHL app sucks. Happy with the install and new router. The one you’re talking about sounds good, but sounds expensive too. :)

Oh it is expensive at $399. As an example, my NAS I used to be able to upload on the 5ghz band @ around 54mbs. With this router I'm pushing 110mbs.

The one you linked to is good, great even. Mine started crapping out after a year of use. If I combined the 2.4 and 5ghz bands, it never dropped a connection. As soon as you split them into 2 different networks, thats when issues arise.

Well known issue with that router if you look on netgears forums.

It's a good router, just don't split the bands.
