When I set up my display 8 or 9 years ago I bought the pieces from 2 other peoples tanks which they were tearing down. Part of that purchase was a big fat Tomato Clown. He thinks he is lord and master of his domain, which is all of the 90. Over the years I have watched this little PITA move, destroy, and rearrange whatever it felt was in its space.
Lately I have been picking up nicer Zoas and Palys. I have lost most of what I have acquired and was ready to give up. Last week I picked up a couple very nice RPE from here. Got them home and set on the bottom of the display to let them set in and adjust. All looked well until last night I watched that Clown tear the polyps from the plug and spit them off .
I think I have found my Zoa killer.

Killer clowns I saw that movie. I have a mated pair of black false percs which live in a RBTA. They will rearrange anything near it. I placed a nice zoa rock a decent distance from their precious RBTA. So I thought but it must have been in the way of their line of sight or they just did not like the color. Because the two of them just underneath the rock and pushed it away from their area. Unlike you I was lucky they did not kill the zoa, but will be angry if they were RPE.

+1000000 to spear fishing in the tank!!!!!! That clown would be of so fast he wouldn't know what hit him, and I would probably pay someone to take him!

If the kids would not miss him he would have been gone years ago. They named him Carl and is the first thing they check on when they get home.

Maybe Carl needs his own... much smaller :) tank since he cannot behave. I had no idea that clowns would go after any kind of coral??!!

They will bite the flesh right off your hands I know that from experience... Dumb clowns... I still love them thou lol.. A reef is not a reef without some nice clowns...

For years he would move rocks or coral or whatever he wanted 4 or 5 times bigger than he is. I can not count all the new corals he has thrown off the rocks to never be seen again. But these palys were on the bottom no where near the hammer he has hosted. I saw him spit something which looked like a polyp but when he went down and tore whatever flesh was still on the plug I had no doubts.

Maybe Carl afoul move to a nice lower light area where he can enjoy himself and the kids can still see him in your sump!!

I have figured out how to tame these literally...LOL...its quite simple...feeding...thats it,well,it works for me,IDK about others, but Bertha,my female tomato,is very tame now that I have been giving her more food. She does still bite me though!

My kids favorite thing about my display tank is when I need to have my hands in the tank. My wife and kids all gather around to watch the clowns attack me.

I had a small acro frag that finally took off from 1/2" to over 6" and fully encrusting the plug & onto the rocks about 3" on either side one morning I got up & what?!?? there is my frag broken off & upside down in the rockwork what the heck happened?? so I put it back & 10 minutes later there it is upside down again this time I put it back & sat back to see what was doing it to my surprise it was my maroon clown must have the jaws of a pit bull

They seem so harmless. I think the most gentle are the true perculas. My false perc's attack my hand everytime I put it in the water. I am waiting for the day the female draws blood when I feed their RBTA. They are a damsel fish and as we know that is a species name is a misknowmer (did I spell that right?).
