Attempting dragonetts

I am picking up a pair of dragonetts next Tuesday and wanted to hear from others with experience. I found a pair that I haven't seen before, and my pods are getting out of control so I decided it is time to finally get a pair. The reason I'm getting them is because I've never seen this type before, and they're a great deal. They're labeled as ruby dragonetts. Here is the male

Nice, I just pick up a scooter blenny, I am feeding him blood worms. I don't have enough copepods. he is eating well

That's a steal if it is the same fish as mentioned! And how are you doing feeding it? A 12 gallon is awfully small for a Dragonette...

My LFS has a pair for $70. each. I already have a rose scooter and for the price I wouldn;t want to risk the agression.

Yep , 19 bucks ! My LPS has about 20 left . It`s doing fine feeding on copods . Mine has the yellow fins , but there`s some that have white are those the females ? The ruby red color is bright and that`s what made me get the little guy .In a big tank he would disappear and in the small tank I can keep an eye on him :).

And it's definitely not the same fish. Sounds like you have one the regular red scooter blennies

Nope , it`s the ruby dragonet not a scooter blenny .I do know the difference :) . It`s just like the first pic on top ,it could pass as his brother :)

What size is your tank? How old is your tank? How much LR is in your tank?
I'm my opinion there is NO such thing as pods being out of control. As for adding a pair of Dragonets, those pods will disappear within a months time, if not sooner.
What are your plans for keeping up the Copepod population? The most vital food source of the Dragonet! Have these Dragonets been trained on prepared foods? As a form of supplementing ONLY. What other fish do you have that may compete with the Dragonet for food?
No matter the type of Dragonet it is. It is still a Dragonet and has very special food requirements as it does NOT possess a stomach like other fish. The food does NOT sit in a stomach waiting to be processed. This is why a Dragonet no matter the type will spend up to 16hrs a day eating! They do NOT eat all types of pods either. They do not eat Amphipods, which are nocturnal and make up the majority of pods in most tanks.
Dragonets sleep when lights are out. Usually by burying themselves within the SB.
A Dragonet CANNOT survive long term on prepared foods alone. Especially Blood Worms, a very unnatural fresh water food.
I'm speaking from experience here. Having lost 3 to my own ignorance, desire and thinking that I'm different. Poor fishes paid for it too :(

125 gallon, 3 years, over 200 pounds. I have cultures I've prepared and will continue to do so. They are eating mysis and brine and have witnessed my Lfs feed them on multiple occasions. And I have a onyx and Picasso clown so not much competition for food. I've been researching them for a little over a year and hope they will do well. Thank you for your advice.
