Hello everyone,

I ordered an IM 100g EXT that should be here in a couple of months. Dimensions 47.2"x23.6"x19.7". I intend to run a mixed reef for a while with softies and LPSand after about a year I intend to start adding in SPS. BRS has the Giessman v12 Pro Iridium on sale right now for 25% off. But the 48" is out of stock leaving the 36".

My first question is if I go with the Giessman Aurora v12 Pro Iridium 36 inch, would this realistically give the the coverage I would need since the tank will extend 6 inches beyond the fixture at each side? Giessman recommended suspension height is about 12 inches. I assume it is fine as my current scape plan doesn't have real estate high on the outer rims of the tank. But I am aslo assuming that the light should radiate enough to cover those areas enough if I ever add corals there. Which would likely be LPS or soft as I guess PAR would be lower. I don't foresee shadowing being an issue unless I were to put some SPS on the sides.

I would assume that this light may be overkill for the first year but I don't want to upgrade after a short timeframe.

Secondly, it comes with a 1 year warranty. Any have issues with quality over time? Hard for me to believe in a product with a short warranty.

I have the Giesemann Aurora v12 marine (1500mm/59") with 4 focus clusters + 2 extensions. It has a lot of power but a few things bother me:
  • The "Giesemann" logo falls off over time. The letters are basically stickers and the glue doesn't hold very well. I don't care about having their name on the fixture, but if you see the letters getting loose just take them off or they might fall in your tank.
  • I will have to send them one of my focus clusters as it has a defect after quite a short time of use (less than a year) and the reflectors on those clusters can melt a little bit. Not to a point where any damage is caused, but it's still a little bit odd. Maybe I just got unlucky or having it at full power through a heat wave wasn't the best idea.
It's odd to me that yours only has 1 year warranty. Might be a legal thing, here in Germany we have 2 years and can extend it to 4 years.
  • The LEDs getting brighter or dimmer isn't a smooth gradient. It happens in steps so the fish get scared a little bit some times when the light goes fully off at night pretty suddenly or the brightness changes suddenly. This may be a firmware issue though, I haven't talked to them about this yet.
It's the first time I have a light with "too much" power that I turn down to avoid corals from having issues.

Out of curious, how wide is your tank if the light is 59"?

It seems that it has a couple of features thag are on the annoying side like a lack of smooth gradient.

I wonder if the warranty being shorter is either a new policy or because it would be imported and like you said maybe a legal issue.

Thank you for the info!!

My tank is 1600mm/63" so just 10cm/4" longer
Edit: I purposefully oversized
