Hey guys. scraped all coraline off half of my tank and after doing that i noticed my bottom of my aussie echinata started peeling off....next day boom, bye bye beautiful, hello white halloween skeleton. OVERNITE>.... what the heck???? i haven't tested params but EVERYTHING in my tank is doing fine. anyone experience this?

you said it yourself "AUSSIE ACROPORA ECHINATA"

haha, by this i mean it's a SUPER sensitive coral by most standards. I had my piece RTN after my tank got to...83*. I was pi$$ed, all my params were spot on except for running a little warm...

Sorry for your loss, but if you're like me, you've already tracked down another piece.

will do. going home to check params in about an hour. sick about it tho. it was really starting to color up/take off after moving it to the "island" i built.

it does have some intense color!!!! one of the brightest in my tank.... i would say your alk dipped from the sounds of it....

yeah i think so troylee, you're right lost my pink millie also...darnit....

yup did a 50% water change and eveyrthing is back to normal.

temp 77to 76 they like cold water . and alk 7.5 -8 . always I USED IN MY TANK NATURAL SEA WATER PARAMETER .AND DRIP KALK 24-7 TO MANTAIN 8ALK 400CAL 1250 MAG .

yeah i have my 1/3 chiller running @ 77 so ti should be ok. i did have a dip in alk. anyone else have bad things happen after scraping alot of coraline algae off their glass?

I think there might be some degree of dissolubility when doing this...also the death of the coraline might be a factor...How big is the tank??...you said the bottom was "peeling off"..suggesting something was wrong before you scrapped the glass perhaps?? If not, how soon after the scrapping did you notice the TN?? Ive noticed when a coral "peels" like that, theres no saving it...thats true RTN if you ask me...Did you dip the thing when you noticed the recession the first time??

i'm running a 180g right now and i was scraping coraline for about 1.50 hours. i noticed the bottom peeling about 4 hours later in the evening. the whole piece was fine that very morning right before i started scraping the coraline since i had some time to inspect all my sps. (which is what i usually do at least once a day) i mean the piece was ghost white dead about 630am in the next morning. i also didn't dip the piece. i thought if it was recessing more the next morning i would just cut off the receeding part and some extra live part and frag the rest.
