Aussie Octo-wall Frogspawn question

I have had this large colony for about 2 weeks now and it is doing relatively well.....But it does not open up like other frogspawns I have had or have seen......This is the first one of this type I have had and just can't seem toget it to open up like I would like it to.....Do they just not open up like the others? I have a Aussie Anchor that opens up to the size of a small nerf football, and both are relatively in the same locations and same flow(random-indirect). I am wondering if they just don't fill and open up like other euphyllia.....Any info from those that have them please share.

I don't have pics but can get some tomorrow....It's not super tight closed just not full and flowing....

is this diff than a regular wall hammer, if not then give it time(low current?)

Simular to a wall Anchor which I have but a Frogspawn.....I had it in low flow but it just sat there.......I was just wondering if my expectation of polyp extension is incorrect and they don't really expand like I think or thought it would....It opens up but just not like other Anchors, Frogspawns I have had in the past.....I will get some pics tomorrow to help explain or show what I mean....Thanks for the post and will have pic tomorrow.

I think you my be right about it being a yaeyamaensis from the pics on the net it does look like those......Still not a whole lot of info for care......But gonna do a water change on the tank today see if that helps....I will get some pics here later.

My first wall hammer took almost 2 years to look the way it does now ("fully" open) while my orange aussie wall hammer came in looking that way. I think maybe it just depends on the individual specimen.

Have you dealt with Wall Frogspawns? My anchor is open to the size of a nerf football. In the same area I put the Octo-wall Frogspawn thinking same flow lighting as the Anchor should be good and it would open....But it opens a tiny bit but mostly limp. No signs of ill health, no bad spots or dead spots just not filling up like I would like it.......I have to get the battery in the cam wait for the lights to come on and get some pics uploaded and take some more to upload.

Aussie? No, not until a couple day ago. But Indo, yes, and they open pretty good, depending on the actual FS we're talking about here. All my experience is with this type:

The aussie one I picked up has tentacles like this, and is MUCH less open, at least right now:

Here is a pic of it.....

I am wondering if the direct lighting was the issue......It was about 1/2 way up under a 250w 14k Hamilton and a Reef Brite 24" blue bar under direct lighting.

I did some wrk on the tank this morning and made some changes that allowed me
to move it to where I could make a cloudy plastic shade for it. It's higher up in the tank but shaded and still gets good random flow...Looking at it now the lighting is much more subdued then it was.

I'd say it looks a hair bleached, so I'd get it in low light for now. Mine that I just got also has that light, slightly translucent look to it. I'm assuming also slightly bleached. Hence the partial constant retraction of the tissue. Here's mine:

Mine is about the same color as yours but a lot of green......It is coming out more now where it's at and is more brown/cream and green but it is coming out more I will get pics here in a little while.

The key with those IME is barely any current but random is the best if you slowly acllimate it to intense light such as start it at the bottom an slowly move it up in the tank they tend to acclimate better it will be a beautiful piece if you just have a little patience they can take days to months to fully acclimate then one day poof huge open happy frogspawn one other thing the current in your tank need to be randomly comming at the sides of the wall on the frogspawn and not at the ends as this I've found tends to irritate the coral! I has started to open up allot more in the new lower light location......Allot more not full yet but looking better.....I will snap some pics later today when kids go to nap time.....
