My t5 fixture blew out last week.
I was using a 4' grow light fixture (Antic & daylight) bulbs.
I needed a new fixture, but didn't want to spend the cash on a new fixture. So I thought there has to be a cheap way to get the results I want for my Fowler tank.
Here comes Amazon:) ......... I searched for led light fixtures that were 6500k and 50 watt. They had to be bright. At last I found a shop light that had those features on sale for $30. Can't go wrong there. Next i searched for LED 460nm blue (antic) light strip. I found 16' for $19 . Again can't go wrong here.
I had just built a canopy for my 125 gal. I had to figure out how to mount the LED strips, I thought PVC running across the top of the tank like a light bulb with the LED strip stuck to the bottom of it.
After all is done, this setup is awesome, I've got great coverage, the brightness is excellent. The combination of Antic led and white led is perfect.
In total I spent $60 for my new lighting setup. Certainly less than a fraction of a commercial lighting unit.
I urge anyone with a fowler tank to try this the fish look great, the tank looks great .
Anyway just thought i would share my experiment on cheap lighting. Enjoy. I have attached pictures
