Hello my friends!
About 9 years ago I made a sporadic purchase and bought a 32G (maybe I never really knew) Hex tank with canister filter and jumped into the hobby. I had varying levels of success with coral and avoided any major catastrophes . Life got busy but I knew i'd eventually be back.

Well i'm back! My waterbox Mini Peninsula 25 showed up yesterday after some shipping delays due to the recent winter weather here in Texas. Here is list of my current gear:
*WB MP 25
*Stock return pump
*Stock filtration (Chamber basket arriving soon)
*Sine Wave pump SWL10 (2nd one arriving soon)
*XR15 Pro Gen 4 with RMS mount
*Aquatop 75w heater
*20lbs caribsea arag-alive reef sand (Will likely add one more arch)
*22 lbs aquacultured caribsea life rock (soaking in LFS for 4 weeks roughly)
*5 lbs dried and cured coral/reef rock from Hawaii (had for about 10 years)
*Fritz Reef Pro mix

Future potential upgrades:
*I may upgrade the stock return pump for additional flow. I've read a lot about this stock pump being noisy. I removed the suction cups and have it sitting on a piece of carbon filter and it's quite quiet at the moment.
*Planning on running filter floss, chemi-pure blue, and marine pure spheres in first chamber. Middle chamber for now has filter pads, some sediment/LR rubble from a local Austin reefers healthy, established reef, then activated carbon. I would like to run a nano skimmer down the road but have read it can't fit with the RMS mount back there. I'm setting up the light later to see what room i'm left with.
*ATO (suggestions?)
*Kraken lid with feeding door

Future fish stock:
Clown pair
Tail spot blenny
Mostly soft corals but do want to dip my toes into SPS. I had one acro piece that I had pretty good success with in my dirty hex tank with weak LED lighting so I think i'll be better prepared this time around. Also considering a Nem for my clowns but this would come later...still undecided as they do add some risk into the equation.

For now.... I'm assuming I have a decent head start as far as bacterial count due to the aquacultured life rock and the seeding sediment from a helpful local reefer. I have a small piece of raw shrimp sitting in my tank for now. I'm going to be adding Fritz zyme 9, but i'm still waiting for bio spheres to arrive til I add this. Does this make sense? I figured i'd want the bio spheres in the tank for when I add the Fritz so that they have a better chance of hosting all the bacteria then if I added the balls afterward....confusing hobby sometimes hah

My redsea test kit should be in later today. Figure i'll wait til Monday and see where everything is at as far as ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, PH, etc.

Anyways I think thats all i've got for now, but i'm sure i'll have questions coming up so hopefully some of you will keep an eye out for progress pics! Happy reefing and enjoy your weekends :)

Temp 78 (shooting for closer to 79/80)
Salinity 1.0245
Ammonia 0
Nitrite 0
Nitrate 2ppm
pH 8
dKH 8.5
PO 0
Calcium 460
(Tested w raw shrimp piece still in tank)

Tanks been up and running for 6 days and have been ghost feeding for 4, and also added a bottle of Fritz 9. only thing sticking out is the low nitrates , which makes sense considering the low bio load. pH of 8 may be a bit low, any thoughts on this and if I should be doing anything to raise it ? Using Fritz reef pro mix.

I could be wrong but I think I mostly skipped a substantial cycle since I started w live sand, aquacultured Life rock (sitting in lfs tank with other rocks and a couple fish) and also seeded my tank with sediment and LR rubble from established tank...don't shoot me but I'm debating adding a tailspot blenny this weekend to continue building the bacteria population. Thoughts ?
Thanks for checking in!!

Could even try a test frag along with the fish, it’s a small system and sounds like you mostly added already cultured rock and substrate plus the fritz, and parems checked out..giver

on second thought they do mostly graze on algae. Has anyone had a negative experience introducing a tail spot to a new aquarium? Reading mixed reviews from picky eaters to absolute pigs hah may have to go with a pink striped wrasse first if I can find one, they seem to be more likely to take frozen/prepared foods..

I'm in love with this guy!!! Added some live tigger pods and he was plucking them out of the water column within 15 minutes :) Also hung some seaweed salad on a clip for him and bought some spirulina brine shrimp cubes which I will feed shortly.
First zoa opened up within 10 or so minutes as well. Will be watching water params closely over the next few days.
So pumped to have some life In the tank
PS he needs a name !!
-Ben

Update: my tailspot decided all he wanted to eat was zoas so I had to bring him back ☹️
current stock:
Small occellaris ( seems to only eat tigger pods, have had no luck w frozen/pellets still)
Blue striped Pipe fish (LOVE THIS FISH
Some zoa, small GSP frag, small candy cane
4 snails (2 nassarius, 1 trochus, 1 hitchhiker turbo of some sort. He's demolishing the diatoms on the rock, very slow mover)

Waiting on my second SLW-10 to show up to help with flow. Replaced filter sock and have been running floss and some bio balls in media tray 1, 2nd tray activated carbon , marinepure bio balls , and still using the bio sponge from waterbox on top of that.....
A. I know I have to replace the carbon, so now realizing I should have done the bio balls on bottom, oh well. Also I've thought about removing the bio sponge but for now will just clean /replace it every 1-2 weeks.
pH:8.2
Nitrate:3-4ppm
Calcium:400
kH: 8.3
Salinity:1.025
Around 9 I had a slight diatom bloom on the live rock that increase for a couple days but now at day 14 seems to be taken care of by the CUC. Corals and fish seem happy besides the finicky eating patterns of both inhabitants.
Picking up a Duncan coral after water maintenance routine, will keep you all posted!

Bluestripe pipefish gets more bold every day. Honestly since adding the larger clownfish she's been put and about more which is crazy. She picks at the frozen baby brine that I mix in with the mysis and spirulina brine but mostly spends her time eating pods all day. Since starting my tank I've added 3 bottles of tigger pods, now my glass is covered in small pods, assuming they are reproducing.

Still nothing to speak of in terms of algae blooms. Had a very slight diatom and very slight Hair algae outbreak that lasted a couple days. I did think I was starting to see Bryopsis but I added an emerald crab and torchus snail and it just seemed to go away (could have been anything really).

Testing again today, but NO3 and po4 have been undetectable using Red Sea which has me a bit nervous. I've really upped the feeding regiment since adding my black ice clown (unfortunately my small clownfish passed away from internal parasites after failed prazipro treatment) and started supplementing Reef Energy Plus 4ml a day. Hoping to get NO3 up a bit....

Anyways all for now , not sure anyone's even paying attention but I love this hobby! Have a killer day!

Couple tank shots. Torch got added Tuesday , will wait a few more days to see if he's going to like the flow he's under..
