So about 9 months - 1 year ago I lost a colony of blastos and discarded the rock they were on. After laying behind the rocks of my reef since then, i decided to retrieve the piece to use as some rubble for a frag. To my amazement look what i found, growing in complete and utter darkness.

This is the rock and dead colony...

I have since moved it into the light, it will be interesting to see how it reacts to the low light and how fast it grows. There is actually a second polyp on the other side the size of the tip of a ball point pen.

That's flippin awesome!

i've got 4 candy cane polyps that are growing back, after being stuck to the bottom side of a rock for who knows how long. i was moving rocks, and saw it sitting underneath one. i had had the rocks 3-4 months, and where the polyps were, it was bone white, no color. thought for sure they were gone, but glued them to a rock anyway. figured it couldn't hurt. sure enough, they're comin back!

i love it when this happens :p

There was an article in coral magazine 2 issues ago that talked about blastos. It basically said never throw away your dead colonies as you can find new growth some time later. I never thought to check after reading it though.
