well 6 weeks ago i decided id use my mates 1000 liter drum and re fill it with reef spec salt water since i was now setting up a 200 liter tank ..all good filled up took first tub out checked specs water change on small tank great result....big tank delivered moved on stand ready for salt ..delivery guy suggested i stir it up occasionally since its just sitting there ..week goes by time to fill tank ..emptied 14+ 20 liter tubs into tank pumps on let it run ...next day checked specs ..sg is 1.032 ..huh??? go check barrel all specs are down dkh is now 7 ish ..was 8.5 etc etc ..my mate hasnt used tub for 2 years lid was on and empty but some salt remained so im now back to dosing tub by tub for my small tank ..and adding approx 2 liters rdo to every tub to slowly bring down my new and thankfully empty except a few snails big tank ..it has cycled at that high sg and now since i dont want to add anything till ive used all the water and cleaned the drum out im embracing the ugly stage ..dont have a proper light for it yet only a strip light of leds more designed for fresh and still a protein skimmer to add so im sitting back watching this tank get diatoms ..not much really ..and some but not much algae ..added snails but dont want them to starve ..dead and live rock is evolving ..i learnt another lesson ...shouldve cleaned the drum ..maybe my bad luck will help someone else ..

Yeah, sometimes we just can't think every single thing thru. Sorry thing happened, but glad you didn't have much in there. As you said, hopefully it will help someone else moving forward.
