Bacon’s 160g peninsula build

hey everyone,
Back to this forum to start another upgrade build. My 108g ran out of space so i decided to do an upgrade.
Probably going to run similar setup as of what i’m runing now with just skimmer as filtration.

Upgraded tank: 160 gallon rimless peninsula
planet aquarium 60x30x21H” with 3/4” thickness
DIY stand: 61x31x38” using 2x4 and 2x6 with 3/4” melamine cover.
Sump: reusing my old 40g breeder

My returns is 2”, and looking at the bulkhead, the flange is 4” in diameter so i feared that im going to lose a lot of water height.(what you folks think? Anyone runn 2” for their drain?

For sump, i hope i can reuse my 40g breeder that i currently have. Just hoping it can hold enough water with the new 160g

Return pump: reef octopus varios 6
Lighting: ATI t5 8x54watt with 2 reefbrite xho
Reef octopus skimmer diablo 250ext with upgraded regal 300 varios 6s pump.
Geo 618 calcium reactor with DIY second chamber


While im waiting for the tank to be build. I decided to start with the rock scape.
Great thanks to a reefer in Colorado who had a good amount of tonga branch in his procession for a great deal.

Thank you. It was too pack in my current tank. And there are flaws in my prvious setup so hopefully this upgrade improve out some of it

Just an update on the rock work. I was thinking of going minimalist due to all the big colony i currently have but then i also want a bigger estate for more corals so i end up having a big surface of the tank with live rocks. I planning on leaving a good amount of blank space in the front for fish to swim

I bought it from a reefer in colorado, they banned the tonga branch so its hard to get them now

I've got a Planet Aquarium 60" x 30" x 18", just a couple inches shorter than yours, also mounted peninsula style. Love it.

Great work on the tonga rock... looking forward to seeing what you make of it.

So i started on my stand today. Decided to go with 38” stand. I still have two more vertical support to add and a few horizontal on the top.

Everything seems to be close to center on all 4top side however the bottom corner is flopping uneven. If i add a bit of weight on the top left corner and stand the opposite bottom right then all 4 corners will be flat.

Stand frame is completed, might add a few more support bars. Also added some template on the control pannel side.

Just got some acrylic in for the control pannel and painted the grommet for the wires. Waiting on my orange acrylic rod to outline it.

Just a tiny update on the stand. Try to skin the stand and set next to my current stand for height refference.
The new stand makes my old tank look tiny
