Banned from a fb for telling the truth

Just gotta let this one out there. Someone posted about their clam's foot that had completely detached from the clam asking what it actually was not knowing what it is.

I said if you don't know what that is than maybe you shouldn't be owning a clam. Then all heck broke loose with people attacking me for 'bullying'

Nothing grinds me more than people who take life even that of what we keep in our aquariums for granted. If you buy something and have absolutely no idea how to look after or didn't put in any time to research you don't belong near an aquarium. And it is cruel!

Maybe it is not what you said but how you said it. I was replying to a post on FB in the salt water aquarium group and I was told I was being condescending. I did not see it that way but sometimes people can have perceptions that are different than ours.

Very true, however I was banned. I was having a constructive well debated discussion with the people who had an issue with it. Who would use profane language and person attacks which I took no part of. And yet I get banned.

This is true, we have to know how to use words to make sure we don't come off as ******s...I've been called that before just for trying to help a fellow reefer out. Sucks that allot of people out there are on the defensive and don't see what you are actually saying.

Literally just irks me like rc, place is a complete dictator ship. Can't have a view or a discussion against what the powers that be may be. There are rules which need to followed and when you follow them you get banned

Also numerous times I think I said welll constructively I do not mean to rude or mean or bully anyone but a clear lack of research and understanding shouldn't be tolerated when the wellbeing of living creatures are first.

Maybe I'm just salty at it (pun included will help lessen my anger at it all) but it seems ridiculous to me. Especially after so many people violated rules attacking me for saying the truth and then me not violating rules of posting and ban

We live in the land of the perpetually offended. I wish I'd get banned from FB, biggest waste of time ever created. My account is deactivated but I occasionally reactivate it inadvertently by following a link there. A ban would eliminate that problem. I need to just delete it.

Facebook has a place in my daily life. BUT I do not allow the negative posters to get under my skin. Do not give them that power, in every media there will be the dissenters, the haters, you can not change their behaviors, ignore them and try to make a positive difference.

FB is fun for reef talk but really on the serious stuff you are better off reading many, many past threads from various sources about your topic and looking for consensus. Too many people use FB to have people sign off on their impulses so they can justify carelessly handling marine life.

No matter how small or insignificant life may seem, no creature deserves to die for no good reason. Especially when it can be prevented, and so easily.

Learning about a creature before owning one seems like it should go without saying. Researching and learning about your tank inhabitants is half the fun.

But even when the reefer dives in blind (buys coral without researching it) you try to help them and letting them know to be ready for a certain purchase, other reefers see it as negative commentary...aka bullying.

How you say "IT" for sure! But there are a lot of snowflakes out there......and our society seems to LOVE snowflakes.

I whole-heartedly agree!!
I follow several Facebook fish / reefing groups. The amount of straight-up lack of effort and knowledge is astounding.
There are daily posts of “how do I set-up a saltwater tank? What is salt? The fish I want are pictured below *inserts an Achilles tang and fragile anthias*”
I just want to bang my head against the wall. Google! Use the google function! Grab some books! Libraries still exist!

There are also several posts that go “I saw this pretty thing at the store and bought it, what is it?” Or “my significant other bought this for me today. What care does it need?”
And the things being purchased are catsharks and starfish and just other generally difficult animals that really shouldn’t be purchased on a whim. It makes me beyond frustrated.

Sometimes I don’t even reply because I fear they might just be trolling, but other times I really take the time to try to help them. The worst is when you type something long and meaningful and people come back with “lol tang police” or other unhelpful comments. The amount of tangs in tanks under 40 gallons is crazy. Some people plan to upgrade which is fine, but a lot of them think their nano is fine. I just saw a tank that was 50 gallons with a yellow, hippo, and kole tang. Seriously?! Ahhh!
