Basket vs socks

Hey guys I've got a jbj 45 and my friend is saying to upgrade to socks, im contemplating upgrading or building my own basket to have a fuge on the bottom half of it for pods and brine shrimp to feed my tank a lil extra :) what do you guys think?!

I hate socks. I went to just using the sheets of filter mesh, and folding or cutting them to size to fit under the drains in my sumps in place of socks. They actually float once submerged and stay in place as long as they are cut to size. Then just lift them out, wash them in the washer and put them back. They are much easier to pull out than a sock full of water. And trap just as much garbage.

Oh nice! Iv just got filter floss right now, cant really wash that in washer but just under sink real good I heard its best to just toss out tho cuz it falls apart
