Yeah not to mention the commercial ones have tiny batteries in them.

There was a great thread on here where someone used a solar charge controller and an AC adapter that was really slick.

There are some turnkey ones that will do it all as well. Charge and passthrough at the same time. Something like a AIMTOM 155 (or the bigger one). Though I am not sure of the quality. Or the Goal Zeros. Very Expensive though and not worth it IMO.

edit: somehow AC changed Very to Yeti Oo

awesome @Entz Thanks for the link.
I replaced the battery in my truck so I used that as battery back up. Just buy the $5 cord from Ecotech and some connectors and connect the battery to a battery tender and done. 12v car battery will last a long time running a couple powerheads.

I replaced the battery in the ecotec unit with a larger battery. 35ah instead of that 18ah that's in it (btw it's a 35$ battery) I have a deep cycle marine battery in my garage I keep kn hand incase needed

You can get old computer UPSs that just need a battery for free or close to it. I then modify them to run 12 volt DC pumps directly.

Here is one of mine.

It will run a Tunze pump for a few hours. I have a larger one that will run my return bump for up to 5 hours and the axulery battery pack is hot swappable.

I get about 2 hours out of my Back-UPS Pro 1500, once Apex turns off everything but one Tunze PH (slowed down to 35%). That's usually plenty of time for either the power to come back on or for me to get the generator going. Also have a battery backup air pump I can use for any QT systems I have going at the same time.

This is what I just put in recently from ideas on this forum. I should get 10 hours on return pump and 1 heater or up to 20 hours on just return pump. This inverter switches automatically like mentioned above. It seems to work pretty well so far.
