Yes, they can be directly connected to a standard 12 v battery. I’d use a deep cycle lead acid, but lithium can be used.

The ecotech is a diy replacement of their battery. There are several threads on it. The tunze is just the expected use:

Yeah the vectras and vortechs can connect directly to a 12v lifepo4 battery. The vectra needs a 26v converter that they sell but you actually need that with their battery backup as well since it is only 12v

Looks like this module basically adds the same feature that comes built in with the ecotech controllers. Good to know as I was considering some tunzes for flow in the tank.

IMO, battery back is highly desirable. If power goes out and you are not home, a generator sitting in the garage is not helpful. I have a generator sitting in an unopened box, but would still plan battery for any outage less than 24 h.

Is it this simple? Pick up a vectra battery backup booster and attach one end to a 12v battery and the other end to the 3rd port on my vectra controller. Then grab a 12v battery charger to keep the battery good. This would be about $230 for 800 watt hours.

Thanks, that is pretty nifty. I'll forgive them for overcharging because they didn't force us to use their battery.


So I'll do the 12v car battery for my vectra but I have a 22g AIO that also needs power and it uses a 24 volt Mighty Jet mini. I guess if I found a converter and ran it off the battery I'd have no way to detect a power outage and auto switch.
Maybe a power station would be better for this one. It is only 13 watts.

Side note - the big blue cellpowa’s both have native 12v dc outputs so if you can run direct off 12v then it’s got dual outlets for that

Pump is pulling 15w and runtime is estimated at 39 hours

I think the 1 kwh power stations are the only ones worth buying. If I need one for my nano aquarium I'll find out how long it can run both return pumps.

The 12v dc has me thinking.. Could I extend run time by using the vectra booster backup and the 12v port on the bigblue? I could use hydros to automatically turn off the outlet for the return pump and switch to the 12v. It would also set the return pump to 25%.

Also, big blue is still not on sale and amazon sales started today. Ecoflow has been marked down more but bigblue seems better.

@VintageReefer Can you plug things into the big blue that have a ground? The picture looks like it does not have a spot for the ground to go. There hasn't been a sale so I'm going to wait longer and miss all the other power station sales.

edit: the only big blue on sale is the big blue 600 with solar panels for $320. I'm not sure if the 537 watt hours is enough. I want an abundance of power for my vectra s2 @27watts and a mightyjet mini @13 watts.
I might upgrade soonish and the bigger battery will be strong enough for the future.
