I just purchased a beat up hippo tang from my lfs. He wasa in a small tank apparently and has a lot of rips in his fins. Other than that he is very healthy and eats good. How long until his fins grow back to normal and what should I do to make them grow quicker.

Fin growth can be a touchy thing. Depending on the extent of the damage it may take years. The best way to facilitate growth would be to feed healthy, varied foods and to make sure there isn't any bullying going on in the current tank.

Besides feeding I would dose for one week some metroplex combined with the frozen and seachem focus to bind the med to the food. I would also add some vitamin M to the mix to help the immune system. It just better to be safe then sorry later:)

Soak food in selcon in addition to other suggestions for better nutrition and inmune health!

Clean water, healthy varied diet will help it grow. As long as the damage is not all the way to the base, it will heal pretty quickly
