Beginner SPS

Another easy one that I don't think has been mentioned is Montipora Setosa. They grow (very slowly) is such interesting patterns. I agree with all the other mentioned types. A big, fat fuzzy purple stylo is almost an iconic coral in a sps tank. They're easy and beautiful.

looks like I will be busy and my wallet will be lighter this weekend. thank you all guys! I have a lot of good notes! if any one has any pictures of growth in there tanks for motivation.

I also just started into the world of SPS, I started with a Tyree Orange Setosa that was recommended from my LFS. It's hardy and has some serious bright color. It's not a new species so you can generally find them for a good price. I bought it as a "test coral" to see if my tank could keep SPS and I will be keeping it long-term because of its color and growth.

Heres an interesting observation. In my works 275 gallon reef, our P. damicornis has spread on its own as said in this thread, but it ONLY spreads to electrical cords within the tank.

Here's the orange setosa. Ignore the ruler I'm tracking growth on several corals (inspired by the growing contest I'm in).

I had a birdsnest spread like a pocillipora. Have 4 babys in my tank which is fine because I lost the big colony in a crash. Kind of glad the babies made it.

My setosa is doing great, but my rainbow monti is struggling. how much flow do you have on your rainbow? i think that maybe my issue.

Its in id say medium/high flow. Rainbow monti is tougher to keep happy IMO

For what it's worth, I've got a seasons greetings monti that gets blasted in high flow and seems to love it. I'm not sure how different they are from a rainbow monti.

well I didn't get any "sticks" Say a beautiful purple Stlyo but someone got it before I could. I did pick up a rainbow monti, a "I forgot the name" and a few LPS and zoas. well I guess I will have to order some online or go to my LFS.
