Besides the tank...what are the TOP 5 pieces of equipment you utilize for your reef tank?

The first few pieces of equipment are easy but I think some of your answers after those will vary! Interested to see what your TOP 5 list looks like!

#1. Powerheads--even if return pumps die and lights are off, flow is absolutely necessary for survival
#2. Lights--necessary for all photosynthetic organisms, which reefs tend to have a lot of
#3. Heater--this would usually take #2 spot, but where I live the tank temperature doesn't drop too much, so #3
#4. Return pumps--allow water to flow through filtration
#5. ATO--could be done manually, but human failure can be disastrous, so a machine is much better!

Lots of contenders there: fans for cooling (not as big a deal in my office), dosers, mini fridge, UV, etc. But the top 4 are must-haves and #5 is a major QoL boost.

It's not the most important piece, but I have an RODI unit near my sump. A sensor monitors the water level in the sump and the RO unit automatically tops off the water level. You never need to mess with it. So much easier than other ATO units, but you need a water and drain line for it to work.

Depends how simple your tank is. My 20g would be wave makers, heater, light, filter, and ATO. I have a uv sterilizer but not running 24/7. Only other equipment would be test kits for me *shrug*

Mr Clean (generic) melamine sponges, lights, skimmer, flow pumps return, wave makers, and parameter testers. Without these items the tank would fail quickly.
