Define “best” most fancy looking? I’ve grown hundreds of pounds of chaeto with my 5$ led flood light from eBay. It’s going strong for 3rd year straight. Even this little 20w led grows chaeto too fast my nutrients are always bottoming out so I have had to dose both nitrates and phosphate for about the last 1.5 years.

H380, works well for me. I'm happy I read this thread, didn't know Orphek had LED strip lights.

I really liked the Halo, but now that API just put out the new Fuge light, I think I’m going to try that with my new trigger system. Seems like the red spectrum is exactly what’s needed.

Question.
Why do we need anything but a low cost plant light, like a 4300k-5500k light ?
As long as the spectrum is in the white, yellow and red, can grow any algae or plant.

In my experience and opinion, you need a light that can compete with the display tank lighting. If you put hundreds of watts over the tank and only a couple watts on a fuge, the algae with more power is going to grow faster and better than the algae with low light :)

I use 2 H380’s to light a 75g fuge below my 210. I don’t need to skim. They aren’t cheap, but it grows a dense clump of chaeto, caulerpa, and seagrass. Place is a pod factory. Have had for over a year and very pleased. Together, they burn the tops of the algae, IMO H1200 totally overkill.

The fiancée calls it the “pink pallace under the sea.” A black cloth normally hides it from view.

I use the kessil h160 tuna flora. Tank setup is fairly new so no long term results yet. On my modified trigger systems sapphire 39 that I had extended to 44 inches to accommodate a larger fuge area. I use the gooseneck adapter. Still wonder if I should have got the h380. I think you can dim it if you get the spectral controller. I'd like to know that.

We have the H380 as BRS proved it to be the best available. Still in cycle phase but it looks pretty bad butt...
